Please help me get some sleep for my family.. we are all extremely sleep deprived.
My son is almost 11 months old. He is in daycare full time so other than weekends I have little control over his naps. He has NEVER been a good sleeper. Daycare naps are normally 30 minutes. Sometimes a little less. Every once in a while it will be 45 minutes. At home he naps well. He will take an 1.5 hour nap and an 30 minute to hour nap. We follow 3.5/4/4 on weekends.
He always goes to sleep independently at night in his crib. It’s very dark in the room and he has a white noise sound machine. He has never taken a binky. He will wake up between 11-2 and I cannot for the life of me settle him and get him back to sleep. I’ll rock him for hours but every time I transfer to the bed he wakes up. I’ve tried patting him in the crib and he will just cry endlessly. I’ll give him a bottle and he will drink it but still not go back to bed. He will fall asleep on me sometimes but I can not get him back in his bed. This will go on for 2 ish hours every night for the last month or 2.
I started trying to sleep train him. I quickly found that check ins make it much worse so I switched to CIO. I did that for 2 nights. On the first night he cried for maybe 1.5 hours and on the second night he was up for an hour crying. The next day when I dropped him off at school he cried when I left which he never does and at school they said he cried all day and was miserable. He is normally a super happy baby like literally everyone will say how he’s constantly happy. Did my sleep training him make him have horrible separation anxiety and is going to be sad all the time now??? Do I keep trying to sleep train him or give up?? Please help me with this and give me any advice possible. I don’t know what to do. I’m so tired and so lost. I need help.

I would try different options. CIO seems harsh and he maybe he really took it that way, as in he was upset by it all day? Also check ins - it’s normal that he doesn’t take it well.. he wants you to pick him up. But once he realizes that he’s not being picked up or even when picked up for a quick hug he needs to sleep in his own crib he’ll eventually learn. It will just take a number of tries.. longer than cio typically takes
