It's a busy summer here at HCPS, with training happening all across the district to prepare for a successful 2024-25 school year.Our student services team members attended a two-day School-Based Mental Health: Student Services Symposium this month. This professional development opportunity was for all HCPS school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists. Thanks to a grant, this is the second year our school-based staff have had the chanceto choose from a catalog of mental health-based and community resource sessions presented by local and national presenters. The staff attended sessions such as "Helping Neurodivergent Learners Emotionally Regulate," "Behavior Modification in School-Aged Youth," "Heart to Art Therapy," "Grief Triggers for Student Services Professionals," and "Igniting Your Inner Fire: Transforming Burnout to Growth!" to name a few. They also heard from Keynote Speaker Aisha Moore from Active Minds.The event concluded with a group session focused on self-care and relaxation.During the two-day event, participants not only acquired valuable knowledge and skills but also had the opportunity to network and collaborate with their peers. They were also treated to sponsored lunches and refreshments, courtesy of Charlie Health & Newport Health, and Gaggle. As a token of our appreciation for their active participation, all attendees will receive professional development points and a stipend, making this event not just a learning opportunity but also a rewarding experience that contributes to their professional growth.We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the more than a dozen presenters, including our dedicated school-based mental health staff, who made this professional learning opportunity possible.
